The Law of the Garbage Truck

One day I hopped into a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly, a black car jumped out of a parking space, right in front of us! My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean - he had a really friendly demeanour towards him.

So, I asked, ‘Why did you do that? Why were you so pleasant towards him? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!’  This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call “The Law of the Garbage Truck.”

My taxi driver explained that many people are like garbage trucks; they run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it. And sometimes, they’ll just dump it on you! “Don’t take it personally,” was his advice. “Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don’t take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, at church or on the streets.”

The bottom line is that smart, successful and forgiving people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life’s too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so love the people who treat you right; pray for the ones who don’t.

Life is ten percent (10%) what you make of it, and ninety percent (90%) how you take it!

Have a Blessed, Garbage-Free Day!

“Faith is not only believing God can, it is knowing that God will.”

Knowing what to do (knowledge), why to do it (perspective) and how to do it (skill) is worthless if you don’t have the conviction that will motivate you to actually do it!

See, the ‘small stuff’ is what makes up the larger picture of our lives. Many people are like you, young man. But their perspective is distorted. They ignore ‘small stuff,’ claiming to have an eye on the bigger picture, never understanding that the bigger picture is composed of nothing more than-are you ready?- ‘small stuff’. — Andy Andrews (via myquotelibrary)

An age is called Dark, not because the light fails to shine, but because people refuse to see it. — ~James A. Michener
A person with an encounter with God is never at the mercy of someone who just has an argument against God!

Everyday holiness has to be a decision, day after day we have to choose how we want to live our lives, so what’s your choice today?

In order to get some breakthrough, we need to start saying no to things!

Compassion is not just a feeling, not just an emotion. It can include feeling and emotion but for compassion to be authentic it needs to translate into action so that it becomes a social reality, a reality in daily life. — ~Tho Ha Vinh - Head of Training, Learning and Development, International Committee of the Red Cross

Charter for Compassion

The principle of compassion lies at the heart of all religious, ethical and spiritual traditions, calling us always to treat all others as we wish to be treated ourselves. Compassion impels us to work tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of our fellow creatures, to dethrone ourselves from the centre of our world and put another there, and to honour the inviolable sanctity of every single human being, treating everybody, without exception, with absolute justice, equity and respect.

It is also necessary in both public and private life to refrain consistently and empathically from inflicting pain. To act or speak violently out of spite, chauvinism, or self-interest, to impoverish, exploit or deny basic rights to anybody, and to incite hatred by denigrating others—even our enemies—is a denial of our common humanity. We acknowledge that we have failed to live compassionately and that some have even increased the sum of human misery in the name of religion.

We therefore call upon all men and women ~ to restore compassion to the centre of morality and religion ~ to return to the ancient principle that any interpretation of scripture that breeds violence, hatred or disdain is illegitimate ~ to ensure that youth are given accurate and respectful information about other traditions, religions and cultures ~ to encourage a positive appreciation of cultural and religious diversity ~ to cultivate an informed empathy with the suffering of all human beings—even those regarded as enemies.

We urgently need to make compassion a clear, luminous and dynamic force in our polarized world. Rooted in a principled determination to transcend selfishness, compassion can break down political, dogmatic, ideological and religious boundaries. Born of our deep interdependence, compassion is essential to human relationships and to a fulfilled humanity. It is the path to enlightenment, and indispensable to the creation of a just economy and a peaceful global community.

P.O.S Moment: Defeating Lust

Lust wants to divert our attention to anything else but GOD and the claim that GOD has on us. One technique to help with defeating lust is by fighting back with the sword of the spirit which is the WORD of GOD.  In case you don’t understand Christianese, this is how you fight back with the WORD of God.

—> When lust tells you a fantasizing wont hurt you, fight back with…
Romans 8:6 For the outlook of the flesh is DEATH but the outlook of the Spirit is LIFE & PEACE

—>When Lust says GOD isn’t going to mind a little compromise, fight back with…
Colossians 3:6 Because of these things the wrath of the GOD is coming to the sons of disobedience

Ephesians 5:6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of GOD upon the children of disobedience

—>And when Lust promises there’s not going to be any consequences to adultery, fight back with…
Proverbs 5 , 6 which tells us that you will groan in anguish that the adulterous preys on your LIFE, and no one will go unpunished you

Hebrew 13:4 marriage must be honored among all and the marriage bed kept undefiled, for GOD will judge sexually immoral people and adulterers

—>When Lust comes and promises it will soothe & comfort you that if you just get release that you ‘ll be comforted, fight back with…

Philippians 4:8 that promises that if you think on what is lovely ,pure and excellent that the peace of GOD is going to be with you.

Think of GOD, Think of His greatness, peace, and wisdom, and remember what he has done for us Hebrews 12:3

—> Pay attention to the little battles because lust does… watch what you read , watch on TV, let your eyes rest on, how we interact with other women

Don’t feel condemned, don’t feel unworthy, don’t feel hopeless, just stand firm in your battle.  Lust is RELENTLESS so you must be with the WORD of GOD.
